The cliché "a picture is worth a thousand words" fits well here.
Working in cooperation with Linn County Sheriff Dept., 2 starving horses from Robinson Dr. in Scio arrive safely at the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary to begin their long road to recovery. According to Wayne S. Geiger, Director, “Assuming there are no other medical/health problems or complications as identified by our veterinarian, Dr. Terry Gerros, Santiam Equine - Cordon Road Veterinary Clinic both horses appear to be responding to the care they are now receiving.” Once put in their freshly bedded stalls, they immediately began eating a light diet of grass hay and as they recover slowly from their near death physical condition.
On August 6, 2008, reports of several starving horses surfaced from a small pasture containing nothing but dried stubble and weeds. The Linn County Sheriff Dept. served a “Search and Seizure Warrant” to the owner on August 9, 2008. Two of the horses arrived at the Sanctuary and one was returned to a “previous” owner. The horses will be held in “Foster Care” until the case is resolved. During this time the horses will be rehabilitated under the directions of the Sanctuary’s Veterinarian and care from the Sanctuary’s volunteer Staff.
The Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to rescue abused and neglected farm animals. The sanctuary relies entirely on donations, fund raising and grants to accomplish this mission. For more information about the horses or the other animals residing at the Sanctuary,
